Some of the things that I wanted in preschool for my own kids, but couldn't find at a price I could afford, was a curriculum that was structured and offered routine while being flexible enough to teach kids to also go with the flow. A place where I wasn't paying for stuff I could easily do at home like 15 minutes of snack time and 15 minutes of free play and 15 minutes of rest and 15 minutes of movement and 15 minutes of coloring and 15 minutes of crafts. I have nothing against other styles for preschool, but that's just not what I was looking for and not what I wanted to offer. I wanted something more academic without being pushy and rigid. I wanted something that would help my kids learn about moral values and social skills and expose them to age appropriate levels of knowledge on a wide variety of topics.
I wanted some emphasis on the areas that Kindergarten teachers state kids especially struggle with (handwriting, number and letter recognition and letter sounds.) I wanted to make sure that learning appealed to all the senses and covered all learning styles: auditory, visual, hands on, repetition, etc. And I wanted all this at a price I could afford without my children being gone from home for more time than I was ready to give them up for. These are all the things that compelled me to start preschool professionally.
I care about the environment and reduce paper waste by communicating mostly through email (unless otherwise requested by the parent) and by using write-on/wipe-off worksheets and activities to reduce the amount of take home paper that just gets thrown away. Every week I send the parents a "This Week In Preschool" email to let you know what we are doing this week. I include LDS Primary Music Practice class to help your kids gain confidence and increase participation in Primary music time. They will practice the songs for the annual Primary Program as well as holiday/seasonal Primary songs.
I have lived in Utah for most of my life and I love it here (despite the scorching summers and freezing winters!) I am married to Jonathan, who is an amazing husband, father, farmer, produce manager at Smith's, and assistant coach for the Wasatch Wasps Football team. We love watching him coach and watching the games! I love being a mom and I love to experiment with photography, cooking, computer stuff, gardening, decorating, organizing, and socializing. I love to learn and I love to teach; I've found that every time I teach something, I am also learning. I love to take my kids to new places such as museums, historical sites, or other family fun spots.
I first started teaching through a co-op preschool when my oldest son was 2 1/2 (he's now 10!) and had many requests to start my own school but with my second child on the way, I didn't feel it was the right time. I started Bee Ready Preschool in 2008 when my daughter was 3 1/2. I had really wanted her to have a preschool experience and decided it was the right time to offer a preschool in my home. Keeping in mind the ever rising cost of gas, groceries, and everyday living expenses, I have done my best to keep tuition affordable. My hope is that every child can have a chance to attend preschool and have the best possible start to their education.
